Dear Community:
We are excited to reach out today with updates on our progress toward making UltraSignup fully inclusive for the entire community and, at this time specifically, for non-binary runners. While this update has taken longer than we hoped, it has never wavered from our top priorities.
At the end of 2021, we released our first phase of site changes addressing non-binary registrations. We are grateful to the community members who gave us feedback and guidance on Phase 1 while helping to inform Phase 2.
Since that first release, our development team has conducted a full discovery process to better understand the complexities within the platform code base. The discovery process has been completed and we are now beginning work on Phase 2 which we hope to complete by early 2023.
In Phase 2, we will be expanding the presence of non-binary (X) as a 3rd gender on the platform. New users will now be able to create non-binary accounts in addition to existing users being able to change to non-binary. The non-binary gender will follow the runner throughout the site including on event entrants lists and results pages. At this time, there will not be non-binary gender rankings or a specific non-binary category in places where the site interface requires gender-specific drop downs or filters. We anticipate addressing a deeper integration of rankings and site UI in Phase 3.
With each step forward on this journey, our intention is to ensure non-binary runners become fully represented on the platform, while also not creating downstream technology challenges for our race directors. We welcome the community’s feedback during this process. As we move closer to the roll-out of Phase 2, we will share more specific details and updated timing.
Thank You,
David, Jay, and the UltraSignup Team
I am greatful that you are “keeping up with the times”
It sounds like ” non-binary” category has been challenging to integrate. Grateful that at least a 3rd category has been created, thank you all for making this important.
Thank you for continuing your work on this!!
