What is Runner Rank?
Runner Rank is a score that summarizes your racing history on UltraSignup. It ranges from 0 to 100 percent and is calculated based on your performance in races compared to the fastest finisher in your gender division. There are two scores displayed in your profile: Rank and Age Rank. While Rank shows your overall performance compared to others of the same gender, Age Rank focuses on comparing you to participants of the same age and gender group.
How is Runner Rank Calculated?
For every race you complete (note that "Did Not Finish" (DNF) and "Did Not Start" (DNS) results are not included), you receive both a Rank and an Age Rank.
Rank Calculation: Your Rank is based on your time compared to the fastest time in your gender division. In timed events, like 24-hour races, it's based on the distance you covered compared to the longest distance covered in your division.
- For instance, if Tyler Cox was the fastest finisher in your division with a time of 4 hours, 21 minutes, and 51 seconds, and your time was 5 hours, 29 minutes, and 23 seconds, your Rank would be calculated as follows:
Age Rank: This is calculated the same way but is based on participants within the same age and gender category. For example, if you are a 30-39-year-old male, your Age Rank will compare your time to other men in the same age range.
Calculating Your Overall Runner Rank To determine your overall Rank, the average of all your individual race scores is calculated. Suppose your Rank for two races was 79.5% and 90.04%, your overall Rank would be:
Predicting Changes in Your Rank If you want to estimate how a new race result might impact your overall Rank, you simply add your new Rank to the existing scores and calculate the new average. For example, if your next race Rank is 85%, then your new overall Rank would be:
