Canceling a race is one of the hardest calls a race director (RD) will make. When a race director cancels an event, runners often check the UltraSignup event page before they see an email or social media post about the cancellation. Update the event page before or alongside any public cancellation announcement.
How to Mark an Event Canceled
To mark an event canceled, follow these steps:
- Go to Event Setup and click Edit Event from the admin tools.
- Click the Timeline tab.
- Scroll to the Critical Dates section.
- Mark the event canceled.
Marking an event canceled does two things immediately:
- Closes registration for the event.
- Adds a cancellation banner to the event header, so runners see the cancellation as soon as they land on the page.
For more on editing timeline dates, see How to Change Your Registration Dates (Open or Close Registration).
Once an event is marked canceled, the race director can refund registered runners. For refund steps, see How to Refund Runners After Canceling Your Event.
Event Cancellation Protection
Event Cancellation Protection is a benefit program available to race directors who register their events on UltraSignup and choose to opt-in to the program. For more details, see Event Cancellation Protection Program FAQs
