UltraSignup’s timing app can be used to track laps for backyard ultra-style events, but it’s important to note that the clock does not reset each hour. This means accurate lap times will need to be logged separately, outside of the app. Here’s how the current setup works and what to be aware of.
How the Timing App Works for Backyard Events
The UltraSignup clock runs continuously—it does not reset at the top of each hour.
Because of this, lap times will appear inaccurate if runners wait to start the next lap at the beginning of the next hour (as backyard format requires).
Example:
Runner completes Lap 1 in 40 minutes and waits to start Lap 2 until the next hour.
Lap 2 also takes 40 minutes, but the app will show:
Elapsed time: 1:40:00
Lap time: 60:00 (not 40:00)
Additional info
We’ve talked about building a better timing option for backyard-style events, but there’s nothing officially available just yet.
If you're planning to use the app for a backyard format, just a heads up: the clock runs continuously, so we recommend keeping a separate spreadsheet or tracking tool to log actual lap times. That’ll give you the most accurate picture.
