Looking for a simple, streamlined way to handle race day registration? Good news—it's not only possible with UltraSignup, it's also easier than ever to do it in a modern, participant-friendly way.
By keeping your registration open until 10 minutes before your event starts and posting a QR code at your check-in table, you can enable runners to sign up on the spot—no laptops or paper forms required. It's quick, efficient, and fits right into the flow of a smooth race-day experience.
And if you're using the timing app, there's support for that too.
This guide walks you through how to generate and use QR codes for your UltraSignup registration page, making it simple for participants to register and even easier for you to manage.
Creating Your Registration QR Code
Step 1: Navigate to Your Registration Page
Open your UltraSignup registration home page - this is the main registration link you would typically share with participants.
Step 2: Generate the QR Code (Chrome Browser)
- Look for the three-dot menu (⋮) next to your Google account avatar in the top-right corner of Chrome
- Click to open the Chrome options dropdown menu
- Scroll down until you find "Cast, save, and share"
- Hover over or click this option to expand the submenu
- Select "Create QR code" at the bottom of the submenu
- Chrome will automatically generate a QR code for your current page
Step 3: Save Your QR Code
Once generated, you can:
- Download the QR code as an image file for printing or adding to graphics
- Copy the QR code for immediate use in digital materials
Setting Up Race Day Registration
If you plan to use the QR code for race day registration, follow these additional steps to keep registration open until race time:

Step 3: Race Day Process
When participants register on race day:
- They scan the QR code you've provided
- Complete their registration on their mobile device
- Show you their order confirmation
- You assign their race bib
Integration with Timing App
If you're using the Ultra Signup timing app, remember to refresh the participant data before your race begins:
Refreshing Participant Data
- Ensure you have a data or Wi-Fi connection
- Re-enter the same race code generated in the system
- Click "New Reset Race"
- Confirm when prompted that existing data will be deleted
- The app will pull in all new participants, including last-minute registrations
Important: Without a data connection, you may not be able to load the updated participant list.
Alternative Uses for QR Codes
Beyond race day registration, QR codes are excellent for:
- Marketing materials and flyers
- Social media posts
- Email signatures
- Event banners and signage
- Expo booths
- Any advertising materials where you want to provide quick registration access
Tips for Success
- Test your QR code before race day to ensure it directs to the correct page
- Print multiple copies of the QR code for different registration stations
- Ensure adequate internet connectivity at your registration area for race day signups
- Set clear cutoff times and communicate them to participants
- Have backup registration methods in case of technical difficulties
Browser Compatibility Note
While this guide uses Chrome as an example, most modern browsers offer QR code generation features. The location of this feature may vary by browser, but the general process remains similar.
This guide helps you leverage your browser's QR code functionality to streamline your registration process on race day and improve the participant experience.
